Hello everybody

I have a problem for one of my VRD providers on civil3D, I can't find how to insert the IFC categories of objects, and therefore, all of its objects are in IFCbuildingElementproxy.

Anyone know how one can assign an IFC category to objects on civil3D?

Hello,
When exporting IFC, in the dialog box there is a button but it is rudimentary and manual

Hello Patrice,

Thank you, indeed ... but all this information is only present on the IFCBuilding, we should not be able to classify the routes, look etc. in civil3D. Pity...
Hello,

I am on a similar issue. What I have found so far, in order to change the category of items to export, is to use the SLABBODYCONVERT commands; WALLBODYCONVERT and ROOFBODYCONVERT.

I transformed like that 3D solids resulting from civil 3D (of the geotechnical module more particularly) in "wall", "slab" and "roof" so that I can sort the elements by their category.

But I admit that this solution is not very elegant and I am looking for how to access the IFC category tree of Civil3D elements.

I will add that it could work with all the categories offered in the IFC civilian export.

cordialement,

Abdelhakim

Hello Abdelhakim,

Thank you for this feedback and I confess that I never thought of doing that. Sounds like a great idea to me.
If this idea works, we would only be limited by the number of categories in the export (ex: no Pipe category ")

I will test.

Hello to you,
In general, it is not for us to define or write a new IFC class, it is the work of BuildingSmart through MINnD in France.
On our side at Géodésial as well for Covadis and Mensura, we looked for the most logical IFC building classes to associate our business objects directly.
For example: an earthwork platform, parking lot, roadway, sidewalk is put in the IFCSlab class to behave like a slab in Revit
An IFCFlowSegment pipe, manholes in IFCFlowFitting

For other objects we give the possibility via a dialog box to define in which class we want to export business objects including 3d solids and 3d blocks AutoCAD
Good job to you
Hello Lionel, if I'm not mistaken, I took one of your Civil 3D trainings (which was excellent by the way ;) )

I did not understand if we are talking about Civil 3D? Today the only objects to be exported in IFC 2x3 via Civil 3D are 3D objects.

(See : https://knowledge.autodesk.com/fr/support/civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/FRA/Civil3D-UserGuide/files/GUID-C5C9DEEE-2C46-4094-B350-05829C1ED5DC-htm.html)

These 3D objects are found by default under the category IFCElementproxy. How can you assign an object in Civil 3D to another IFC category? Is there a command similar to IFCExportAs from REVIT?

As I understand it this command prompt exists with Covadis and Mensura?

Thank you in advance,

Abdelhakim

Hello Abdelhakim,
For C3D it is indeed complicated and it is very surprising that Autodesk is still doing nothing about it.
In Covadis and Mensura, it is indeed possible to define the classes for business objects and for 3d solids / blocks from the IFC export.
We have also integrated the possibility of assigning a classification to objects.
When was it for the training and for which BE? and thank you for your positive feedback, it's always nice

cordially

Hello Lionel, I followed your online training via a support provided by the engineering company for which I work (IngCAD) and I appreciated the attention you paid especially at the beginning of the training to define the user space and organize it optimally. By downloading the France kit in particular!

@Antoine there is also another way to organize an ifc from Civil that I just tested. In a blank drawing, by defining an external reference to drawings containing 3d objects, during the ifc export, you can choose a level to be assigned to each of the external references. This level is found in the ifc tree and can be used to select or hide the elements that are assigned to it.

For my part, I stop there for the ifc research on Civil ...

Good continuation,

Sincerely,

Abdelhakim

Hello Abdelhakim, hello Lionel,

Thanks for your answers and I managed to export the routes / path etc. in ifcslab. It works.
I am limited by the exportable categories.

I am testing the second method.
